Home Renovation, Life

Homeowners!

Posted on

After walking through dozens of open houses, searching Redfin for countless hours, and fighting in 5 home offer battles (all over a span of 2 years) we FINALLY BOUGHT A HOUSE!! I still can’t believe it’s true.

We knew from day 1 that this house would be a fixer upper. Although the previous owners updated the kitchen appliances, cabinet doors, and exterior windows, they left everything else untouched so several elements of this 40 year-old house need fixing. We spent the first 10 weeks of home ownership sleeping in the kitchen in sleeping bags because renovation is messy and commandeers the entire house.

Below are photos of the inside of the house the day we got the keys. These are now the “before” photos… can’t wait to post the “after” shots!

(Since I’m posting this a year after we bought the house ) We’ve redesigned the stair rails, replaced the carpet, painted the entire interior, replaced and painted all new baseboards, all new interior doors and trim, added recess lighting in almost every room, painted the fireplace, replaced the large window next to the stairs, tiled both bathrooms, replaced the bathtub, built a vanity, replaced both vanities, installed a new kitchen sink, painted the entire exterior, added exterior window trim, replaced the gutters, started replacing the fence and probably other projects I can’t remember at the moment.

We fell in love with this house because of the yard. Lucas and I both grew up in the country where our families live on 10-20 acres so we prefer to have as much land (and space from neighbors) as possible. Unfortunately in this area, any lot over 0.10 acre is considered big… and anything over 0.5 is more than we can afford. We lucked out with a 0.20 acre lot and will cherish it while we have it!
