Tennyson is officially ONE! Since Tennyson isn’t old enough to pick a birthday theme, I picked one for him : ) I saw photos of this theme back in college and thought, “once I have kids I’m for sure going to throw a watermelon party!”
The covid-19 pandemic is still real and affecting Oregon, so we couldn’t have a giant party but we managed to have a decent sized group with the people we see on a regular basis. Grateful we have the chance to spend quarantine with these wonderful people.
Tennyson has been walking now for a month. It’s really hard to get a non-blurry photo of him because he never stops moving. Although he had no idea this party was to celebrate him, he loved being around his toddler friends and loved licking the frosting off the cake.
I tried to make a “healthier” version of both the cake and the frosting… the frosting was a true disaster so Lucas ran to the store and got (per my request) the “healthier” version of pre-made frosting which we now know tastes like straight wax. Not good, and takes forever to wash off your hands because its base is coconut oil. The cake turned out okay! The taste was good but I froze the cake so I could frost it and I didn’t take it out of the fridge soon enough before the party so it was still basically rock hard by the time Tenny tried to eat it. Afterwards Lucas said, “Next year I think we should ask Christine to make the cake.” (insert crying laughing emoji)
Through an unexpected Facebook marketplace win, we got this “play yard.” I knew Tennyson wouldn’t like playing in this alone but I kept it because I thought it would be a cute ball pit (with balloons). Turns out the kids loved it!
